How to search YouTube comments

  1. Paste a video link. Watch pages, Shorts and youtu.be links all work. Or type a keyword and pick one of the videos it finds.
  2. Leave Buyer intent only on to see comments that ask for a tool, a recommendation or help. Untick it to read everything.
  3. Type a word in the filter box to narrow further, such as a competitor's name.
  4. Switch to Load newest comments when you want people who might still be reading replies.
  5. Click Open on YouTube to see the comment in place, then reply there yourself.

Which videos to search

The comments worth reading sit under videos where people are in the middle of the problem:

  • Tutorials for the job your product does. People get stuck and say so.
  • Comparisons and reviews, especially of the tool you replace.
  • "How I" videos from people a step ahead of your customer.
  • Recent uploads. Old comment threads rarely get a reply back.

What counts as buyer intent

A comment is flagged when it uses one of these phrases, or a close variant:

  • looking for
  • recommend
  • alternative
  • is there a tool
  • anyone know
  • how do I
  • I need
  • struggling
  • wish there was
  • worth it
  • which one
  • help

It is a phrase match, not a judgement. Plenty of flagged comments are jokes or already answered. Read each one before you reply.

Replying without being the spam comment

Answer the question under the video, in public, in your own words. Say you built the thing if you mention it. Do not paste the same reply under ten videos. The creator can see it, and so can everyone else.

Where the comments come from

Comments come from the official YouTube Data API. We do not scrape YouTube. Your link or keyword goes from our server to YouTube, and results are cached for a few hours so the same video loads fast for the next person. We do not keep a copy after that. Each lookup loads up to 200 top-level comments, not replies.

Yes. No account and no email. Lookups run on YouTube's free daily API allowance, so if it runs out, try again the next day.

No. YouTube's API does not offer that. The finder searches comments on one video at a time.
