YouTube comment lead gen for founders

YouTube comment sections are full of people asking for the tool you built. They already understand the problem and they are actively looking for a solution. This guide covers which videos to search, how to spot buyer intent in comments, and how to reply without being the spam comment.

Why YouTube comments are a lead gen channel

YouTube is one of the few places people publicly ask for help on a topic and stay around to read replies. A tutorial video on the job your product does will have comments like "what tool are you using for this?" and "is there a free alternative?" Those are warm leads: they already understand the problem and they are looking for a solution right now.

The channel is under-used for a simple reason: reading thousands of comments by hand is too slow to be worth it. A buyer-intent filter changes that. Flag only the comments that ask for a recommendation, a tool, or an alternative. Open each one and reply with something useful.

It is different from Reddit in one important way: Reddit threads age fast. A post from three months ago has no active readers. A YouTube video from two years ago still gets comments today, and those commenters are still watching. That makes certain videos worth checking repeatedly.

Which videos are worth searching

The comments worth replying to sit under specific types of videos. Not every video in your category qualifies.

  • Tutorials for the job your product does. If someone is watching a tutorial on invoicing, HR software, or cold email, they are actively doing that job. They get stuck and ask in the comments.
  • Comparisons and reviews. A "best tools for X" video draws people who are in shopping mode. They often comment with "I tried Y and hated it, any alternatives?"
  • Problem videos from creators a step ahead of your customer. A creator explaining how they do their job often attracts their audience asking how to do the same thing. That audience is your customer.
  • Recent uploads where the comment section is still active. Old threads rarely send reply notifications to the original commenter. Aim for videos uploaded within the past six months, or older videos where the creator or others are still active in the comments.

The free YouTube comment finder on this site lets you paste a video link and filter comments for buyer intent automatically. You can also search by keyword and pick a video from the results.

Spotting buyer intent in comments

A buyer-intent comment uses a phrase that signals active shopping, not casual curiosity. The phrases worth filtering for are variations on:

  • "what tool do you use for"
  • "is there a free alternative to"
  • "any recommendations for"
  • "looking for something that"
  • "how do I" plus a specific job
  • "I need a tool that"
  • "does anyone know of"

Not every flagged comment is a live lead. Plenty are jokes, rhetorical questions, or already answered. Read each one before you reply. The filter narrows a thousand comments to twenty. You still decide which twenty are worth your time.

It is also worth checking whether someone already answered the comment. If the commenter replied "thanks, solved it," move on. If nobody answered and the comment is recent, that is the one.

Replying without being the spam comment

A YouTube comment reply is public. The creator sees it, the commenter sees it, and anyone else reading that thread sees it. That is good if your reply is genuinely useful. It is bad if it looks like an ad.

A reply that works:

  • Answers the question they actually asked, in one or two sentences. Give them a useful next step even if your product is not the right fit for them.
  • Mentions your product only if it is the honest recommendation. Say you built it.
  • Does not paste the same reply under ten different videos.
  • Does not start with "Great question!"

After you reply, follow up on the person. If they reply to your comment, that is a warm conversation worth keeping. The guide to tracking outreach from public conversations covers how to keep those people without losing them two days later.

There is no auto-reply here. You write every comment yourself. That is not a limitation: public comments from a real account with a posting history convert better than a bot reply does.

The free YouTube comment finder

The YouTube comment finder on this site is free and requires no signup. Paste a video link or search a keyword and pick a video. The tool loads up to 200 top-level comments and flags the ones that use buyer-intent phrases. Open any flagged comment on YouTube in one click, then reply in your own words.

What it does not do: it does not monitor YouTube, it does not send replies, and it does not watch for new comments. It loads comments when you ask. That is the right scope for a daily fifteen-minute habit: you open the tool, pick the videos worth checking today, and reply to the two or three comments worth answering.

After you find a commenter worth following up with, save them to Founder CRM from their channel page. You write every subsequent reply yourself. Add Founder CRM to Chrome for the follow-up habit.

Where to go next

YouTube comments are one channel. Reddit threads are another, and the subreddit finder shows you where in Reddit your buyers already talk. The full free stack combining both channels is the free Reddit lead-gen stack guide.

If you want to work both channels with the same daily habit, the Reddit Chrome extension guide explains how the extension fits in. The practical Reddit motion is first customers from Reddit.

Questions founders ask

Can I use YouTube comments for lead gen?
Yes. Tutorial and review videos in your niche have comment sections full of people asking for tool recommendations and alternatives. Reply in public, in your own words, and save the person worth following up with.
Which YouTube videos work best for finding leads?
Tutorials on the job your product does, comparison and review videos in your category, and recent uploads where the comment section is still active. Aim for videos from the past six months so your reply notification actually reaches the commenter.
Is there a free YouTube comment finder?
Yes. The YouTube comment finder on this site is free and requires no signup. Paste a video link, filter for buyer-intent comments, and open each one on YouTube in one click.
Will the tool reply to comments for me?
No. There is no auto-reply. You open the comment on YouTube and write your reply yourself. The tool filters the comments so you only read the ones worth answering.
How many comments does the finder load?
Up to 200 top-level comments per video. It does not load replies. Open a comment on YouTube to read the full thread.
Should I use YouTube or Reddit for lead gen?
Both work for different reasons. YouTube comments are longer-lived: a video from two years ago still gets new comments today. Reddit threads are more immediate: sort by New and you find people who asked an hour ago. The free subreddit finder and the YouTube comment finder on this site cover both channels without a signup.
