Product Hunt launch-day outreach checklist
Launch day is a few hours of people who already chose to look. Treat it like conversations, not a comment contest. This is a checklist for the outreach half, not a growth-hack scoreboard.
What this page is
A launch-day outreach checklist. It does not predict ranking, count hypothetical upvotes, or claim a conversion rate. Product Hunt is a room full of makers. The useful work is noticing who actually talked, writing something specific, and remembering them tomorrow.
If you wanted a live dashboard of every comment on your listing, this is not that. Founder CRM does not scrape Product Hunt in the cloud while you sleep. It runs in your browser when you sit down. The longer category note is Product Hunt outreach for founders.
Before you message anyone
- Open your listing as a logged-out visitor. Tagline, first screenshot, and maker names should make sense without you standing next to them.
- Write down the Launch Team: makers, hunters, and anyone you already promised a reply.
- Read the first comments for a real question. Answer those in the thread before you open DMs.
- Skim the other launches on the homepage. Adjacent makers are often the people who will still talk after the clock runs out.
Who is worth a message
Keep a short list. Names beat volume.
- Someone who asked a specific question on your listing.
- A maker launching beside you who wrote a real comment, not a template congrats.
- A hunter who actually used the product, if they said so.
- People who said they would try it, or asked for access. Those are follow-ups, not launch spam.
Skip the pile of one-word upvotes. A DM that starts with "saw you upvoted" is the same message everyone else is sending.
What not to do
- Paste the same congratulations under every other launch.
- Ask for an upvote in a DM.
- Dump a feature list in a thread that asked how onboarding works.
- Leave the tab and hope you will remember who offered to try it.
Prefer a page that answers the question over a spray of comments. If you keep writing the same explanation, put it on your site and link it once. That is usually kinder to the thread and easier to find later.
The morning after
Launch day is noisy. The useful replies often arrive when the homepage has moved on. Write down four things for each person you care about:
- Who they are, and the Product Hunt or X URL.
- What they actually said.
- What you said back.
- When you should look again.
Do not chase silence. One honest follow-up on the day you said you would is enough.
When Founder CRM helps
If you launch once a year, a notes app is fine. If you will still be talking to today's makers next week, you need the names next to the page.
Founder CRM is a free Chrome extension. You describe who you want. It opens Product Hunt in the session you are already signed into, keeps makers who fit, and files them on this machine. You still write every comment and every DM.
There is no account and no credit card. Install Founder CRM from the install page. A matching flow lives on the templates page if you want a starting file.
Questions founders ask
- Will this get me to number one?
- No. It is a checklist for conversations. Ranking is a different, noisier problem.
- Does Founder CRM post comments for me?
- No. It finds people and reminds you. You type and send.
- Do I need this if I am launching tonight?
- You need a list of who talked. The extension is one way to keep that list in Chrome. A notes file works if you will actually open it tomorrow.
