Alternatives
Syften alternatives for founders (2026): honest comparison by job
Use Syften when you want a hosted keyword alert. Use a free email listener, a social-listening dashboard, or a manual Reddit search when that alert is the wrong shape or the wrong price. Use a people list when the real gap is who you already decided to answer. Founder CRM does not replace that listener. We do not run hosted keyword alerts. You write every message.
Who Syften suits
Syften suits a founder or a small team that wants software to watch public conversations and send a ping. As of September 2026, Syften's homepage describes keyword monitoring for the public web and for communities including Reddit, Hacker News, X/Twitter, Indie Hackers, GitHub, Product Hunt, forums, YouTube, Bluesky, and Mastodon. The same page says the product watches those communities 24/7, and its FAQ says Syften does not monitor LinkedIn.
The Reddit monitoring page, also read in September 2026, says matches can go to email, Slack, RSS, API, or webhook, and that the target for Reddit delivery is under one minute. That timing is their target, not a number we measured. Their homepage FAQ gives X/Twitter a separate target: a delay of at most 15 minutes. Treat those as two different promises.
Price on the homepage, as of September 2026: Entry is $29.95 per month (3 community filters, 100 community results a day, 1 web filter, 5 web results a day, 7 days of archive search). Standard is $49.95 per month and lists AI filtering, API access, Slack, 20 community filters, and a one-month archive. Syften PRO is $119.95 per month and lists webhooks, 100 community filters, and unlimited archive search. Twitter and YouTube monitoring are marked as paid add-ons. They also offer a 14-day trial with no credit card, described as starting on the PRO plan.
The AI piece on Standard and PRO is a filter that accepts or rejects a noisy match before the alert goes out. It is a gate on their listener. It does not write the reply you post. Pick Syften when someone on the team will open the thread the same day.
Three jobs people mix together
A search for a Syften alternative usually means one of three jobs. A single product rarely does all three.
Keyword alerts
The job is: tell me when these words show up, without me refreshing search. Syften is built for that, across more places than Reddit. F5Bot is the narrow free version: Reddit, Hacker News, and Lobsters. Brand24 is the dashboard version, with reports across many networks and a much higher price. Founder CRM does not send keyword alerts to email, Slack, or anywhere else. A side panel is a place you open. It is not a listener that runs while you sleep.
Finding first-customer conversations
The job is: find a person who has the problem, while the thread can still use a reply. A listener helps when you cannot sit in Reddit every day. It also floods you when the keywords are broad, which is why Syften sells AI filtering on the higher plans. A manual pass is enough when the niche is small: a few communities, static buyer phrases, and the threads you would have replied to anyway.
Founder CRM can open Reddit, X, and Product Hunt in the Chrome session you are already signed into and keep people who match. You run that when you sit down. You still decide who is a fit, and you still write the comment. How to reply once you have a thread is the first customers from Reddit guide. The free pieces that are not a hosted listener are the free Reddit lead-gen stack.
Tracking outreach
The job is: who was it, which thread, what you said, and whether Friday is a follow-up or a stop. Syften can hand a match to your own tools through an API or webhook on the plans that include those. That handoff is still not the record next to the reply box. A spreadsheet works. A side panel works if you are already in Chrome. The fields that matter are in track outreach from public conversations.
If you arrived here because a research product closed, the tool choice is what founders use now after GummySearch shut down. The follow-up habit, which is a different page on purpose, is how to track outreach after GummySearch.

The alternatives, one job at a time
F5Bot, when you want the free ping
As of September 2026, F5Bot says it monitors Reddit, Hacker News, and Lobsters and emails you within minutes when a keyword appears. The free plan is listed at $0, free forever: keyword alerts, those three platforms, email, and basic filtering. Silver is $9.99 per month for 20 keywords. Gold is $49.99 per month for 200 keywords, and that plan lists RSS, AI filtering, and Slack. The "within minutes" line is their claim, not a delay we measured.
Choose F5Bot over Syften when Reddit, Hacker News, and Lobsters are the whole map and you want to start at $0. Choose Syften when you also need the wider community list, Slack on a mid plan, or their Reddit delivery target. Our note on pairing the alert with a people list is the F5Bot alternative page.
Brand24, when you want the dashboard
As of September 2026, Brand24's pricing page lists an Individual plan at $249 per month, or $199 per month billed annually. That plan includes 3 keywords, 2,000 mentions a month, 1 user, and updates every 12 hours. Reddit is one of the sources in their plan comparison. They offer a 14-day trial and say no credit card is required. Higher plans on the same page cost more and list faster updates. This page does not restate every tier.
Brand24 is the better pick when the deliverable is a report: where the brand was mentioned, across networks, on a schedule. It is a poor pick when you wanted a $0 or $30 alert and a place to remember one person. Founder CRM does not produce sentiment dashboards or mention quotas.
Reddit search plus a spreadsheet, when the niche is small
No vendor is required. Search Reddit, or search the web for the community you already read. Copy the thread URL into a sheet with the name, what they asked, what you said, and when you will look again. You will miss posts you never searched. That is the trade for skipping a listener. It is the right trade when you talk to people in two communities and you already know the phrases. Example phrases you can copy, which are a static list and not a live feed, are on the buyer-phrase page.
Founder CRM, when the gap is the person
Founder CRM is a free Chrome extension. Optional AI that finds people uses your own key from xAI, OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google. A list you type yourself needs no key. It is free on the Chrome Web Store: add it to Chrome. The list stays in your browser. You write every comment and every message. There is no auto-send.
It fits after an alert, or instead of an alert, when you will sit down and talk to a short list. It does not fit if you need Slack pings, a minute-level Reddit listener, or a mention report. Those limits are also on safety and no auto-DM. The category page is Reddit CRM for founders.
Tools that send, which are a different shopping trip
A listener and a bulk sender solve different jobs. If the search was really "something that messages Reddit for me," read Founder CRM vs Redreach before you treat any alert product as that tool. If you are comparing Reddit post lists or intent alerts under another brand, the separate page is Founder CRM vs SubHunt. Founder CRM finds people and waits for you to write.
When Syften is still the better pick
Stay on Syften, or start there, when most of these are true:
- You want a hosted watch on communities you will not refresh yourself.
- You want delivery to email, Slack, RSS, an API, or a webhook.
- Reddit, Hacker News, and Lobsters are too small a map.
- You care about their Reddit delivery target of under one minute, knowing we did not measure it.
- You do not need a record of who you replied to. The alert is the product.
Entry at $29.95 per month, as of September 2026 on syften.com, is reasonable when one answered thread can pay it back, and wasteful when you wanted a free ping. In that second case, F5Bot's free plan or a spreadsheet is the better fit. We would rather you keep Syften than install a CRM that does not watch keywords.
The combination that works for a lot of founders is boring: Syften or F5Bot finds the mention, you decide it is a person, and Founder CRM holds the follow-up. You still write the message.

Questions founders ask
- What should I use instead of Syften?
- Match the job. Hosted alerts across many communities: stay with Syften, or compare F5Bot if you only need Reddit, Hacker News, and Lobsters. Reports across networks: Brand24. A small niche and no subscription: Reddit search plus a spreadsheet. A record of who you replied to: Founder CRM, which does not send keyword alerts.
- Is Founder CRM a Syften replacement?
- No. Syften alerts you when keywords appear. Founder CRM stores the people you choose to answer, in your own Chrome. You write every message.
- How much does Syften cost?
- As of September 2026, Syften's homepage (https://syften.com) lists Entry at $29.95 per month, Standard at $49.95 per month, and PRO at $119.95 per month. Twitter and YouTube monitoring are paid add-ons. They also list a 14-day trial with no credit card.
- Does Syften monitor Reddit?
- Yes, according to Syften's Reddit page (https://syften.com/reddit), read in September 2026. Alerts can go to email, Slack, RSS, API, or webhook. Their target Reddit delay is under one minute. That is their target, not a number we measured.
- Can I use Syften and Founder CRM together?
- Yes. Let Syften find the mention. File the person in Founder CRM if you reply. You still write the message. Founder CRM will not turn the alert into an auto-send.
- When is Syften the better choice?
- When you want the hosted ping: wider than Reddit alone, delivered to email, Slack, RSS, an API, or a webhook, and you do not need a follow-up record. If you only want a free email on Reddit, Hacker News, and Lobsters, F5Bot is the closer fit.
Install Founder CRM
Keep Syften if the missing piece is the ping. Install Founder CRM if the missing piece is the person you will still remember on Friday. You can use both. You still write the message.
